At its 76th edition, the EICMA is the most essential and authoritative motorcycle exhibition in the world, and this year also leads us to dream of roads that do not yet exist.
EICMA is a love story that has lasted for over 100 years.
What is EICMA
We are talking about the most critical presentations on the two-wheeler market. News and innovation are the keywords of an event that forces people to dream even the most skeptical.
The exhibition is best known in Italy and the world as the Milan Motorcycle Show or International Cycle and Motorcycle Exhibition.
It is the one that is the most crucial event in the world for two wheels and has its roots at the beginning of the last century when, in 1914, the first edition was held exclusively reserved for cycles and motorcycles since, previously, the exhibition was more general The international show of the Automobile and the Cycle (1901)
In 104 years of history, the popularity of EICMA has steadily increased, reaching staggering numbers: half a million visitors with 50,000 trade visitors, over 1,300 exhibitors from 31 countries around the world.
EICMA 2018, historical places
His city is Milan; his location has changed over time. The first edition was held at the Kursaal Diana, a well-known Hotel in Milan inaugurated in 1908, and since the first independent EICMA was held in 1914 it was a brilliant stage but, over time, it did not prove suitable to satisfy the ever-growing popularity of the Milanese exhibition. Here, the next edition is already moved to Via del Conservatorio 9, in the spaces of the famous Veloce Club of Milan. In 1925 he finally arrived at the Palazzo Della Permanente, where he remained until the 20th edition of 1939.
The 21st edition we find at the Palazzo dell’Arte, it remained here until 1952. From 1952, to accommodate the ever-growing public and the increasingly consistent presence of exhibitors and their novelties, it was moved to the Palazzo Della Meccanica, one of the pavilions of the Milan Fair. The Fiera di Milano thus becomes a stable and lasting site of the ever-growing success of EICMA.
Finally, in 2005, the Milan Fair was moved out of the city to the Rho-Pero exhibition center and returned to being annually and divided into two sectors: bicycles and motorcycles.
The 76th edition of the EICMA will be held at the Milan Fair in the new and now well-known headquarters of Rho-Pero, from 6 to 11 November 2018. For the public, the dates available are limited to the period between 8 and 11 November 2018, the ticket was set for € 20.50.
EICMA 2018, the new trends
Three-wheeled motorcycles and electric bicycles are the future of mobility
More and more, there is the talk of three-wheel solutions, a hybrid movement that seems to be moving from the scooter sector to that of medium and large displacement motorcycles. This is always to be shared by many as the projection for the near future. An example is the YAMAHA Niken (pronounced “taken”), one of the most awaited innovations for 2018, distributed from this September. A bike that has done a lot of discussions necessarily because with two front wheels it gets along much better than many other antagonists in the mix but to say of many, it loses the sense of driving on two wheels (and how not to be suspicious ?).
The other dominant trend for the future will be the electric bicycle, a solution that will influence many choices, above all at the city level, with high-tech solutions and simplicity (lightness and design) that could shift the balance on the electric cycle in the case , for example, of choices related to the work won in large centers. We’ll see.
EICMA 2018, the news
From small displacements to grand touring, from vintage to super sports cars, EICMA is first and foremost synonymous with novelty. So here is a selection of jewels to expect from the next Milan Exhibition.
One of the elements to be emphasized in many sectors and which involves many manufacturers is the trend reversal for what was the search for ever more powerful engines and pushed almost in all categories. We, therefore, see the market displacements that until a few years ago were whiteflies on the world motorcycle scene such as the 300 and 400 cubic centimeters. Lightweight and slim engines able to offer brilliance at a cost and power for the average driver. In this sector, we mention the arrival of new Benelliengines, Honda with CB 300 and Kawasaki with a Ninja 400 to be discovered.
It is undoubtedly one of the most popular design categories straddling scrambler and naked and has offered us, in recent years, absolutely exciting new lines. It is reasonable to believe that EICMA 2018 will see latest versions of Vintage and Neo-Classic on the stage. Some could come from Yamaha with the XSR 700, the elegant BMW NineT retro, the Triumph leader with Bonneville and the new Ducati Scrambler.
The most awaited
Among the many new features of this edition we can certainly name the Ninja 636, Ducati Multistrada enduro 1260, Yamaha YZF-R3 2019, Aprilia Shiver 900 and RSV4RR 2019, Triumph Street Twin 2019, Honda CRF 1000 L Africa Twin 2019, Ducat scrambler, Triumph Street Scrambler, MV Dragster 800 RR Pirelli, Kawasaki Ninja H2 2019 and many more.
There will be exceptional and limited circulation bikes.
Among the novelties of this very particular category, we would like to underline that MV Agusta will bring to EICMA an even more evolved and refined version of its F4 which will be a tribute to Castiglioni who together with Tamburini thought it for the first time in 1997. It is called “Claudio” and boasts excellent technical and stylistic solutions. The jewel will be produced in only 100 copies.
We will come back to update you on the results of the exhibition in a few days when at the end of this roundup of dreams and news, everyone will have made his choices on how to jump in the saddle to their goals.
